USA KUNG FU ACADEMY

USA KUNG FU ACADEMY, CAPE COD TEAM DC 2009 RESULTS

On June 26^th, 2009 a team of 30 students, instructors, teachers, juniors, teens, adults and parents from USA Kung Fu Academy traveled down to Washington, DC to compete in the annual WONG PEOPLE KUNG FU TOURNAMENT. The tournament was held at Trinity College in DC, on June 28^th.

This was our fourth year we made the trip, and once again the trip was a huge success, and a very good time was had by all. One of our goals this year was to improve on our 5^th place national ranking, up from 9^th place in 2006. Although the official results will not be posted in Kung Fu Magazine until April or May of 2010, we believe we have a good shot at moving up, and, more importantly, our team represented USA Kung Fu Academies of Cape Cod and our Sifu, Sifu Eric Cruz, in a very positive manner.

As is always the case, the journey and time spent together, new friendships being made, and experiencing Kung Fu on a grand scale was the most memorable aspect of the weekend. Our Sifu was able to make the trip down to watch us this year, and from all accounts he was very pleased with what he witnessed. Fathers competed in rings with their sons or daughters competing across the room, students got to watch their instructors in action, old friends were re-united and new friends made, and some very beautiful Kung Fu was on display throughout the day.

On Monday following the tournament, a group of 31 people from the team went to Camden Yards to watch the Red Sox pound the Baltimore Orioles, 4-0. Then on Tuesday, unfortunately, we all had to head back home, weary from the trip but excited and full of stories for next years team!

All students in all divisions did very well, from seasoned tournament veterans to quite a few who competed for the very first time. The following is a list of students who placed in the top 4 spots of their respective skill and age division:
